Press Release 30th
January 2008
- The recently disputed Kenya Presidential election
has resulted in intertribal unrest in Kenya and more latterly
in Nakuru and Naivasha.
- World Flowers does not ally itself to any political
party in Kenya and is solely focused on keeping its supply
chain fully operational during this difficult time.
- We believe news reports have sensationalised
isolated flashpoints and whilst concerned we believe the situation “on
the ground” is manageable and not as dramatic.
- The majority of the Oserian work force live
on site with the remainder being temporarily accommodated within
the Oserian village.
- All farm security has been heightened throughout
this period of tension.
- Our workers have demonstrated that it is possible
for all tribes to coexist peacefully and respectfully.
- Oserian alone is continuing to produce in excess
of 2 million stems of flowers per day all of which is being
transported to Nairobi on a daily basis without interruption.
Ravine, Liki, Logonot and Tambuzi are all delivering to the
Airport or to the Oserian pack house with daily supplies having
been made during the last two weeks.
- On the strength of our service level under
challenging circumstances and the knowledge we have of the
operational realities on the ground, we are not anticipating
interruption to our St Valentines Day supply of red roses.
- There are some isolated disturbances in certain
areas and farms but these farms do not supply World Flowers.
Our supply chain to all our markets is very strong and robust.
As of yet we have not had any problems on the farms or getting
the product to the market.
- The situation on the ground in Naivasha is
improving. Discussions have been held today with the Red Cross
to try and establish a temporary solution for the displaced
workers from the Naivasha region.
